When I first joined the OMSSDL board, I was welcomed with open arms by a dedicated group of individuals who shared similar interests and a strong commitment to student engagement. From the beginning, it was clear that OMSSDL is a collaborative and supportive community where every member’s ideas and contributions are valued. The board is made up of passionate leaders who work together with a shared purpose and a high level of professionalism. What truly sets OMSSDL apart is our common goal of providing middle school students with the best possible experience that is inclusive, engaging, and impactful. Through teamwork, thoughtful planning, and a genuine dedication to service, the board consistently strives to create meaningful opportunities for students to grow, connect, and feel supported. Being part of OMSSDL has been a rewarding experience, and I am grateful to contribute to a community that prioritizes excellence and positive student development.
At our first tournament of the year we got to watch as the middle schoolers competed in events that they enjoyed. Some events that were provided are not in the high school level and it was so fun to see. Personally, my favorite event to judge was tall tales. Tall tales is an event where the competitors are given a minute to craft a story based on three topics. The event is such a creative and fun way for the middle schoolers to express themselves as people!
